Working Moms

Are you a working mom?  If so, what are your best tricks to keep your household running smoothly while still being able to spend quality time with your baby, Hubby, friends, family, and oh yes, even your dear neglected pets?

Here are a few things that I have been planning on doing/changing so that our days run as smoothly as possible when I start back to work:

  • Clothes: have our clothes picked out for the week and iron them if necessary Sunday night - hang in specific place in closet (this is mostly for me because I tend to make a mess and take lots of time if I don't already know what I am going to wear)
  • Morning Routine: I will take my shower at night so that I can get ready quicker in the morning.  Rusty will start getting up when I do to go ahead and get completely ready so he can take care of the baby while I am getting ready.
  • House: try not to get behind on laundry or if I do, do it on Saturday or Sunday when Hudson is taking a nap.  I've also toyed with someone coming to clean every other week... mop, do bathrooms, etc.  Still haven't decided yet. We will see on that one.  We are friends with another married couple that SWEAR it is worth every penny!!
  • Cooking: maybe make a casserole on Sunday, freeze it, and eat it sometime that week? I'm pretty sure we will be ordering pizza once a week.  A large is enough for dinner and then lunch the next day for both of us, so it is convenient, cheap, and good.  Use the crockpot more - anyone got any great recipes??
Please leave us tips, comments, recipes, etc down in the comment section below!

  1. I'm not a working Mom yet, but a lot of times when I am making something like lasagna or enchiladas for dinner on a Saturday night, I'll go ahead and double the recipe and freeze one. That way you don't spend any extra time, but you still have a meal in the freezer for a busy night. I also make big batches of spaghetti sauce at a time and freeze some of that as well. That way you on a weeknight, you just boil your noodles, heat the frozen sauce, make a salad and you are done!
    Hope it helps ;)

  3. I have been thinking about this too... I think the getting your clothes prepared on Sunday will totally help... pinterest has some great crockpot recipes... Love the pizza idea too! We have thought about hiring a house cleaner too.... I am so cheap (haha) but I think it would be worth every penny!

It's all going to work out momma!! You are so organized and we will get this school thing under control so we can get home to our boys ASAP!!!! :) I am just glad we all have each other for support and advice to figure it all out!

  4. Crock pot and freezer meals! Like my sweet cousin El said, when you make dinners think about what would freeze well (soups, pastas, casseroles, etc.) and make doubles of those dishes. I use the foil 8x8 pans with a lid, wrap them in plastic wrap and if you want it to keep for a long time stick it in a large freezer bag. I label them all with painters tape that way I can reuse the zip lock bags because they are a waste to throw away when nothing touched them. I also make at least one crock pot dish a week. I put everything in the night before and put the whole crock pot in the fridge. That way when I wake up it is just plugging it in. I also shower the night before. Also try to find things in your routine you can do at the same time. For me one thing is pumping (I think I remember you posting about BF). I try to have something to do while I am pumping. In the morning I have cut 15 minutes out of my routine by putting on my makeup while I pump. In the evenings I fold laundry. If we are pressed for time and I need to bottle feed her I will pump and bottle feed her at the same time. That will cut it down to fifteen minutes instead of her taking a hour :) hope this helps! I'm still trying to figure it out!
